Curriculum (Master’s Course)

Requirements concerning the subjects to take

At the master’s course of the departments in the School of Human Health Science, you are required to acquire at least a total of 30 credits according to the conditions specified in the table below:

Common subjects among different courses

• Among the common compulsory subjects, it is compulsory to acquire 4 credits for Special Seminar in Human Health Science and a common core seminar.

• With regard to elective subjects, you are required to acquire total of 10 credits from among Special Seminar in Communication Studies, Research Method I, Research Method II, Health Service Statistics, Pathological Cytology I, Pathological Cytology II, Next-Generation Medical Care, Cell Culture Practice, Cytodiagnotics Practice, Human Anatomy Practice, as well as the compulsory subjects of other departments in the course (special seminars), compulsory subjects of other courses (special seminars), and elective subjects of departments in the School of Public Health.

• You are required to acquire total of 8 credits or more from among specialized compulsory subjects (core subjects) of your department.

• You are required to acquire 8 credits for the special research.

To complete any of the courses, you are required to enroll for the course for 2 years or more, acquire total of 30 credits or more including 4 credits for common compulsory subjects, 10 or more credits for elective subjects, and 8 or more credits for compulsory core subjects of each department and 8 credits for compulsory special research, engage in research under guidance, and then pass the master’s thesis evaluation.

CNS course: Clinical nurse specialist [CNS] in cancer nursing and CNS in infection control

• With regard to compulsory core subjects, you are required to acquire total of 12 credits (14 credits for CNS in cancer nursing) from among specialized compulsory subjects (core subjects) of your department and 6 credits for practical subjects.

• You are required to acquire 4 credits for research on a given subject.

To complete the course, you are required to enroll for the course for 2 years or more, acquire total of 32 credits or more (34 credits for CNS in cancer nursing) including 10 or more credits for elective subjects (including common subjects for CNS), 12 credits (14 credits for CNS in cancer nursing) for specialized compulsory subjects , 6 credits for practical subjects, and 4 credits for compulsory research on a given subject, engage in research under guidance, and then pass the master’s thesis evaluation.

Advanced practice midwifery

• Among the 58 credits (59 credits if selecting an advanced subject), 34 credits for basic specialized subjects and specialized subjects are required for the eligibility to take the midwifery national examination.

• With regard to elective subjects, it is desirable to take subjects related to research and statistics.

• It is compulsory to acquire 8 credits for special research.

To complete the course, you are required to enroll for the course for 2 years or more, acquire total of 58 credits or more including 4 credits for common compulsory subjects, 6 credits for elective subjects, 7 credits for basic specialized subjects, 27 credits for specialized subjects, 6 credits for extensive subjects (compulsory), and 8 credits for special research, engage in research under guidance, and then pass the master’s thesis evaluation.

Our Vision

In this course, we aim to promote advanced practice and basic research centered on perinatal medicine, reproductive science, and maternal and child health studies in relation to maternal health nursing and midwifery, establish academic frameworks for maternal health nursing and midwifery, and foster advanced-nurse/midwife practitioners, who can independently practice, study, develop and systematize advanced midwifery in order to apply our findings to support the society (especially mothers, children, and their families, who bear the destiny of future Japan and international societies on their shoulders). By completing the course, you can be eligible to take the midwifery national examination and acquire a master’s degree.

Education

To foster advanced practice midwives with excellent diagnostic and practical skills and group leaders in health care and welfare activities, our curriculum is comprised of 5 areas, namely common subjects, basic specialized subjects, specialized subjects, advanced subjects, and comprehensive research. The curriculum is comprised of subjects for nurturing professional skills and wide perspectives while focusing on (1) Advanced diagnostic skills, (2) Administrative and management skills, (3) Basic research skills (inquiring mind and innovative power), (4) Human qualities, and (5) Skills to work internationally. The curriculum is also characterized by the kind of education to foster comprehensive knowledge, decision-making skills, technical skills, and scientific mind to expand capacities to detect emergencies and deviation from normal conditions and independently provide health check and care of high-risk pregnant and parturient women and infants.

Research

We provide guidance on research required for diagnosis and support in maternal health nursing and midwifery, such as evidence-based advanced medical theories, intervention studies to verify technologies, quantitative descriptive studies of health problems and related factors concerning sex and reproduction over women’s life cycle, and hypothesis testing and evaluation research of support measures (such as programs and guidelines), so as to foster an inquiring mind to deepen, expand, and further develop midwifery as an advanced medical profession.

Requirements concerning the subjects to take

At the latter doctoral course of the departments in the School of Human Health Science, you are required to acquire at least a total of 16 credits according to the conditions specified in the table below:

Requirements for completion

To complete any of the courses, you are required to enroll in each course for at least 3 years and acquire 16 or more credits (including 12 credits or more from special subjects [4 credits each] and special seminars [4 credits each] of each department and integrated unit subjects [4 credits each]. Among them, it is compulsory to take a special subject and special seminar of each department. It is also compulsory to conduct a special research [4 credits]). Furthermore, you are required to engage in research under guidance and pass the doctoral dissertation review.
