Michael Karin, Ph.D., is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of California San Diego (UC San Diego). Dr. Karin is a world authority on signal transduction pathways that regulate gene expression in response to extracellular stimuli, infection, and stress. His works led to understanding the mechanisms of JNK pathway and NF-B pathway. For these contributions, he was elected to the member of National Academy of Sciences (2005) and Institute of Medicine (2011). He was also awarded the William B.
